God Has Spoken

By Marv Rosenthal

An Astounding Theme
In the Book of Hebrews, the inspired penman tells us God spoke in the Old Testament economy through His prophets, but today in the New Testament economy God has spoken in (through) His Son (Hebrews 1:1-3).

The simple fact that God has spoken at all to humanity is an astounding thing; a treasure of unequaled worth. God was not obligated to speak to humanity. Humanity had not earned the right to hear God speak. God’s word to humanity was all of grace. Christ spoke both in what He taught and in how He lived.

  • In Matthew, Jesus told us He is the rightful King of the Jews.
  • In Mark, Jesus told us He is the Servant of Yahweh.
  • In Luke, Jesus told us He is the Son of Man.
  • In John, Jesus told us He is God in flesh.

The atheist denies God’s existence, so he does not hear God speak. I pity him.

The agnostic does not know what he believes, so he does not hear God speak. I have compassion on him.

The religionist follows human traditions, the false doctrines of charismatic leaders, or marches to a trumpet that blows an uncertain sound. He does not hear the voice of God. My heart breaks for him.

The elitist is lifted up by pride and self-praise. He has a lot of knowledge, but no wisdom and, therefore, refuses to hear the voice of God. His attitude annoys me most of all, but God gives me grace to be sympathetic to him nonetheless. He may say he doesn’t want my sympathy, but he is getting it anyway.

The great multitudes of humanity ignore Jesus, therefore, they go through the motions of life without hearing the voice of the life giver. I feel so sorry for them.

The Reality
“The heavens tell [literally, keep declaring] of the glory of God; and their expanse declares the work of His hands” (Psalm 19:1).

The reality is that God has spoken through His Son.

Because He has spoken there is an answer to our questions. The questions are, “Why was I born? Why am I living? What is my destiny?”

Because He has spoken there is a solution to our problem. There is no pit so deep, no darkness so black, that He cannot bring glorious deliverance.

Because He has spoken there is hope for our end. Life is not a journey to nowhere. Beyond the grave is a certain glorious eternal future for those who hear Him speak and heed His message.

As believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, let us always strive to tell the world, one soul at a time – the atheist, the agnostic, the religionist, the elitist, and the lost multitudes – that God has spoken through His Son. “The one who has the Son has the life; the one who does not have the Son of God does not have the life” (1 John 5:12).

May we always be dependent upon the Holy Spirit of God for His daily leading and blessing.
